Junior Programme Ages 7-17 years

07/2018 - 2 weeks, Reviewed as Group
Lessons & Teaching
No native teachers. The group had two teachers, both young Maltese girls. One was more popular, one less giving too boring lessons to the kids (exercises, gap fill, etc, less active interaction). Not enough speaking and fun engaging activities.
Facilities
A nice, but small school, no cafe or lounge for students for instance, the location is a bit further away from the main street in Msida, unattractive neighbouhood. No playground too.
Accommodation
Very average host families, NO airconditioning and in such extremely hot weather the rooms for the children were not only extremely small (some even with a tiny window showing a wall inside the block building) but also unbearably hot when the old noisy fans hanging on a piece of a wire from the wall were a joke. The kids were not rested well. And the hosts were nice but at several ocassions a few of them were unwilling to give the children fruit or extra food when they politely asked and even offered to clean up after themselves and were still refused. And the food was often really bad, cheap and plain at times.
Food
The food was below average in lots of cases in many families. OK at times, though, but nothing special, little to no extra care and disastrous lack of proper home cooking.
Social & Activities
Average. The school hired an activity company - nothing special. Lack of quality, student-fun focused activites. No socializing opportunities parties, no student parties. No evening activities at all. Even a few completely free days without any program. Usually had to wait during an activity for other students from other groups or schools who were supposed to join us and who were never there (last time was Friday when we waited on the bus ...for an hour!!! And nobody even said anything to us!) Angry old drivers, made the girls sick several times driving like crazy! Extra care was rare. Some of the trips were not fun, we were not provided enough info on the trips when knowing the truth (that there were going to be huge amounts of people, Comino for example) the group would not have taken the trips preferring to go on our own trips.
Staff
The school staff were really nice. Not the bus drivers and the external activity company people.
Safety
Malta is generally a safe place. But the school did a good job arranging the students accommodation really close to the school, all within 5 mins of walking.
Overall Experience
Well, I guess the students had a good time, but we felt no special care. No extra mile. The school is small, not many chices for students to do at the school. The accommodation and the activities were below average, the students constantly compared their programme to the one of other schools finding theirs better-more parties, swimming, fun. Not here. Average food in the host families.

Why with us

  • Because it is an official language, most Maltese people are excellent speakers of English and this will give you the chance to exercise your language skills wherever you go.
  • The country is also extremely safe due to the overall friendliness of the Maltese. Crime rates are low and students can wonder around without fear.
  • Living costs in Malta are reasonable – students should expect to spend anywhere from €100 – €150 a week depending on how much (and how often) they want to spoil themselves.
